Why Are Kanye, Drake, Bieber And Frank Ocean Skipping The Grammys?

Don't forget the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag motion that some argue has forced nominations to be more varied and inclusive. Very well folks…now it looks we have the original ingredients for a #GrammysSoWhite campaign. Artists Kanye West. Frank Ocean. Drake and Justin Bieber have all reportedly agreed to boycott the music awards ceremony on February 12th. In accordance to a report by TMZ – which broke the news of the Grammy boycott – the four artists apparently are of the shared view that the awards ceremony does not pretty signify black musicians, and younger artists more usually. Frank Ocean started the boycott by not even submitting his great sophomore work Blonde for Grammy consideration. He claimed that “…the infrastructure of the awarding technique and the nomination system and screening program is dated.” Ocean and the other 3 artists, regardless of their many nominations, all prepare to be somewhere else other than the Grammys up coming Sunday. Drake, for one, will be fulfilling his obligations on tour in Europe. A supply informed TMZ that Kanye West will sit out mainly because “he’s received 21 Grammys, but when he was head-to-head against a white singer, he by no means won.” Bieber’s Purpose and Drake’s VIEWS are each up for Album of the Yr consideration (competing against data by Beyoncé, Adele, and Sturgill Simpson). Drake was nominated for eight total awards, while Kanye acquired 5, and Bieber obtained 4. It is intriguing to see what sort of impact, if any, this boycott will have on potential Grammy Awards and the nomination process, or if any more artists will join ranks and skip the ceremony.

The Recording Academy – the body that officially presides above the annual Grammys – has still to release a statement on the four artists’ boycott.

The 59th Annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast from Los Angeles’ Staples Center by CBS, at eight p.m. Eastern on Sunday, February 12th. Read Additional -> Petition To Substitute Lady Gaga With Migos At The Super Bowl Has Over 50K Signatures
